Bangladesh finish fourth position in Rollball World Cup
Dhaka: Highflying Bangladesh men’s team completed their dream 4th Rollball World Cup campaign losing to last time runners-up Iran by 3-11 goals in the semifinal at the Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday.
Holders India retained men’s title beating their traditional rivals Iran.
Later, hosts Bangladesh were placed 4th losing to Kenya in the 3rd place-deciding match.
Bangladesh, which reached semifinal of the 40-team meet displaying a brilliant performance all through in the ongoing meet, were beaten by physically, tactically superior and experienced Iran in the day’s semifinal.
Moreover, penalty miss and wrong pass and strategy caused their defeat.
In the day’s vital match, Bangladeshi celebrated player Hridoy, who spoiled two penalties, scored all the three goals for Bangladesh and still dominated scorer list making 29 goals in the tournament.
Indian women’s team clinched 2nd World Cup title also beating their arch-rival Iran by 6-4 goals in the final on Wednesday.
Earlier, Bangladesh women’s team were eliminated from pre-quarter stage of the meet.
