Nasir’s ton spurs Gazi’s big win against Sheikh Jamal

Dhaka: Returning from Ireland after playing the last match of Tri-nation Series, spin all-rounder Nasir Hossain appeared at the 2nd round super league match of the Walton Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League and hammered a century of 134 runs for Gazi Group Cricketers to ensure a big 177-run win against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club at Khan Saheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah on Saturday.
In another super league match, Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club notched up a 6-wicket victory against Prime Bank Cricket Club at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan Ground 4 in Savar.
Gazi Group vs Sheikh Jamal
Sent in to bat first, Gazi Group Cricketers posted a mammoth 350 for 5 in 50 overs where skipper Nasir and Gurkeerat Singh shared 147 in 21.3 overs in the 5th stand.
Man of the match Nasir retired after playing an innings of 113 balls to fire seven boundaries and six over boundaries, while Gurkeerat stayed for 74 off 60 balls, including nine boundaries.
Mominul Haque was another notable scorer with a half century of 66 off 61 balls, including six boundaries and one over boundary.
Ziaur Rahman and Elias Sunny bagged two wickets each conceding 56 and 61 runs for Sk Jamal respectively.
In reply, Sheikh Jamal were bundled out for 173 runs in 38.1 overs spurred by a six-wicket haul of Abu Hider.
Hider picked up six batsmen of Shiekh Jamal by spending only 35 runs in just eight overs.
Ziaur Rahman (46 off 29b; 2x4; 4x6) fought to chase down the colossal target but his attempt could not avoid the big-margin defeat. Besides, Prashant Chopra scored 37 runs while Abdullah Al Mamun and skipper Rajin Saleh added 25 runs each.
Gurkeerat Singh bagged two wickets conceding 27 runs in 8 overs for Gazi Group.
With their maiden win in the six-team super league, Gazi Group moved up 2nd place from 3rd.
Gazi Group collected 20 points from 13 matches, having 10 wins and three losses which included 18 points from 11 games with nine wins and two losses in the 1st phase of the 12-team league.
Prime Doleshwar SC vs Prime Bank CC
Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club chased down a target of 242 for 4 in 48.4 overs after restricting Prime Bank Cricket Club at 241 for 8 in 50 overs.
Man of the match Marshall Ayub and Shahriar Nafees shared a partnership figure of 142 runs in 29.4 overs in the 3rd stand to make the way for Prime Doleshwar SC's maiden win in the super league.
Marshall Ayub played an innings of 84 off 89 balls featuring 10 boundaries and one six, while Shahriar Nafees stayed for 78 off 129 balls, including six boundaries and one six.
Imtiaz Hossain and Rajat Bhatia added 32 and 23 runs respectively for the side.
Raihan Uddin bagged two wickets for 28 runs in 10 overs while Asif Ahmed and Taibur Rahman took one wicket each for the side.
Abhimanyu Easwaran (71 off 93b; 5x4; 1x6) and skipper Asif Ahmed (not out 62 off 71b; 3x4; 1x6) hammered half centuries while opener Mehedi Maruf (44 off 44b; 4x4; 2x6) fell short of six runs for another half century for Prime Bank CC to score 241 runs losing eight wickets.
Rajat Bhatia bagged three wickets for 50 runs while Arafat Sunny took two wickets conceding 40 runs for Prime Doleshwar SC.
With this win in the super league, the 3rd place runner Prime Doleshwar SC collected 20 points from 13 matches, having 10 win and three losses, which included 16 points from 11 games with eight wins and three losses in the 1st phase of the 12-team league.
