Dhaka: Mahendra Singh Dhoni said that he would be happy to quit as One-Day International (ODI) captain of Team India, if that guaranteed a change of fortunes for India.

Dhoni made the statement, which had a hint of sarcasm in it, at a press conference following a six-wicket defeat in the second match of the three-ODI series against Bangladesh.

‘Everyone says that all bad things in Indian cricket happen because of me. I’m happy to step aside if that will mean that India does well,’ Dhoni was quoted as saying after being served a volley of questions during the press meet, reported cricketcountry.

‘I am really enjoying my cricket,’ Dhoni said when asked of his captaincy plans, before making plain his annoyance at the media scrutiny.

‘I knew this question one was coming. These questions always keep popping. The media loves me. If you remove me and the Indian cricket will start doing well, and if I am the reason for all the bad that’s happening to Indian cricket, definitely I would love to step away and play as a player’, said Dhoni.

‘It doesn’t really matter, who is the captain because I was never really in line to become the captain. It was a job or responsibility for me. If they want to take it away from me, I am fine,’ he added.

India have lost their first ever bilateral series to Bangladesh, and the ODI skipper is expected to be answerable for a wide variety of questions for the same.

India were outplayed by Bangladesh once again as they conceded a six-wicket loss to the hosts to surrender an unbeatable 0-2 series. Pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who made a sparkling debut in the first game with a five-wicket haul, starred once again with the ball as he took six wickets for 43 runs to help dismiss India for a lowly 200.

The Tigers in reply, lost the wicket of Tamim Iqbal early in their innings, but were propelled by useful knocks by Soumya Sarkar and Litton Das. All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan brought up his 30th ODI fifty as he guided his team home.
