Dhaka: Hosts Bangladesh bounced back elegantly and levelled the three-match one-day international series 1-1 outplaying visiting South Africa by seven wickets in the second ODI match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka on Sunday.

This was the second triumph of Bangladesh against South Africa in their 16th ODI battles after ICC World Cup 2007 in West Indies. This was also maiden success over the Proteas at home soil.

Chasing 162 runs, Bangladesh reached the target scoring 167 runs for 3 in 27.4 overs riding on the third wicket stand for 135 runs in 22.4 overs between Soumya Sarkar and Mahmudullah.

Tigers’ consistence performer Soumya hit not out 88 runs off 79 balls featuring 13 fours and one six and was adjudged man of the match.

Soumya faced 47 balls to complete his third ODI half century with two runs pushing through backward point on a length in 16.5 overs off a Jean Paul Duminy delivery.  

The World Cup hero, Mahmudullah, who made back-to-back century was out for 50 runs off 64 balls with six fours, which is his big score after coming back in the series overcoming injury following a duck in the first match. He hit 13th ODI half century in his 121 matches.  

Mahmudullah was caught by skipper Hashim Amla at short mid-wicket off a Kyle Abbott delivery at 159 in 26.2 overs.  

Soumya Sarkar hit his lone six off an Imran Tahir delivery in 27.4 over to score the winning run.  

Shakib Al Hasan was not out for zero facing four balls.  

Kagiso Rabada bowled out opener Tamim Iqbal (5 off 7b, 1X4) in his first delivery at 5 in 1.1 overs.  

Rabada again bowled out number three Liton Das (17 off 14b, 2X4, 1X6) in his second over’s fourth delivery at 24 in 4 overs.  

He grabbed two wickets for 45 runs in seven overs while Kyle Abbott took the other wicket for 22 runs in 5 overs.  

Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, South Africa scored 162 runs for all in 46 overs.

New bowling sensation Mustafizur Rahman’s off-cutter jolted the visitors’ batting castle early as he claimed Quinton de Kock (2 off 9b), caught by Sabbir Rahman, at 16 in 4.1 overs.

Pacer Rubel Hossain, who was included in the squad in place of legspinner Jubair Hossain, bowled out Proteas skipper-cum-opener Hashim Amla (22 off 37, 3X4) at 45 in 12.1 overs.

All-rounder Nasir Hossain inflicted more sufferings on the opponent bowling out number four batsman Rilee Rossouw (4 off 24b) at 59 for 3 in 18.1 overs.

Mahmudullah dismissed David Miller (9 off 24b) as he was caught by skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza at 74 for 4 in 23.5 overs.  

Nasir captured the big fish, Faf du Plessis, who scored team highest 41 runs off 64 balls with three fours caught by Soumya Sarkar at 93 in 28.3 overs.

In the fifth delivery of his seventh over, Mustafizur dismissed Jean Paul Duminy (13 off 21b, 1X4) caught by Sabbir Rahman at 100 runs in 31.5 overs.  

Rubel trapped Chris Morris (12 off 13b, 3x4) lbw for his second wicket in the third delivery of his fifth overs when scoreboard was showing 116 for 7 in 35.3 overs for the visitors.  

Mustafiz bowled out number nine Kagiso Rabada (10 off 25b, 1X4), who set the world record of best bowling figure 6/16 with a hat-trick in his debut in the first match against Bangladesh on Friday, at 138 in 41 overs.  

Mustafiz grabbed three wickets for 38 runs in his 10 overs spell to raise tally of his ODI wickets to 16 with the best figure of 6/43 in five matches.  

Nasir Hossain trapped Kyle Abbott (5 off 11b, 1X4) lbw for his third wicket at 160 for 9 in 44.5 overs. He conceded 26 runs for 3 in 8 overs.  

Skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza finished the final job for the Tigers claiming number seven batsman Farhaan Behardien who made the second highest 36 runs off 44 balls with two fours and one six for the side caught by Nasir Hossain.  

Rubel Hossain took two wickets for 34 runs in 9 overs. Mahmudullah and Mashrafe Mortaza took one wicket each for 13 and 17 runs respectively in 4 and 5 overs.

The 3rd and last ODI scheduled for 15 July at 3:00pm, at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS) in Chittagong.

The visitor will also play two Test matches in the current tour.  

First Test will begin at 9:30 am on 21 July at ZACS while second Test billed for 30 July at SBNCS in Mirpur.
