Dhaka: Heavy rain washed out the entire fourth day’s play in the opening test between Bangladesh and South Africa at Chittagong on Friday.
Rain and bad light had also forced early finishes to the second and third days, eating up time and making a result unlikely.
South Africa were 61-0 in their second innings after bowling out Bangladesh for 326 before rain and bad light forced early stumps on the third day at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
Openers Stiaan van Zyl and Dean Elgar were on 33 and 28 runs respectively, whittling down Bangladesh’s first innings lead to 17.
The visitors were all out for 248 runs in the first innings.
The second and final Test will be held in Dhaka from 30 July to 3 August.
