Dhaka: The wonder boy of the Bangladesh cricket, paceman Mustafizur Rahman became the first player to win the ‘Man of the Match’ award on both Test as well as One-Day International (ODI) debut, reported CricketCountry.

Mustafiz achieved the feat at the end of the first Test between Bangladesh and South Africa, which ended in a draw after the fourth and fifth days were washed out due to incessant rain.

The young pacer, who has undergone a major rise in international cricket in the recent past, took four wickets for 37 runs to restrict South Africa in their first innings to restrict them to 248.

The spell inspired Bangladesh to gain a 78-run lead by posting a 326-run total, with South Africa reaching 61 for no loss before the downpour.

Mustafiz first dominated the headlines during Bangladesh’s three-match ODI series against India, in which he played an integral part in securing a 2-1 series win for his side. Mustafiz’s 5 for 50 in the first ODI helped bowl India out for a score of 228, prior to which the hosts had set a 308-run target.

Having won the ‘Man of the Match’ award for the same, Mustafizur then went on to better his performance in the next game, this time recording figures of 6 for 43 to bowl India out for 200 and setup a six-wicket win for Bangladesh. While his performance was average in the dead rubber of a series finale, he was hailed as a national hero.

His prime weapon during the ODI series was the off-cutter, which deceived many a batsman.
