Dhaka: The first session of the third day in the second and final test between Bangladesh and South Africa was washed out on Saturday due to rain.

Incessant rain throughout the Saturday morning delayed the start of play on day three of the second and final Test between Bangladesh and South Africa at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka.

The rain has stopped for the time being. However, there are plenty of water puddles and it will take a lot of time to get the ground ready.

The covers were being peeled off at about 10:00am. So, that is great news.

South African journalist Neil Manthorp tweeted, “Goodness me...we could be playing in about four hours...if the rain stays away.”

Earlier, the second day of the Test was called off due to incessant rain without a ball being bowled. The decision was made by the match officials after nearly three hours of delay.

Bangladesh had earlier finished on a score of 246 for the loss of eight wickets after 88.1 overs at the end of Day 1, with Nasir Hossain batting on a score of 13. The highlight of the opening day was Dale Steyn taking his 400th Test wicket, dismissing Tamim Iqbal for the same. Earlier in the Test, Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat. While the hosts decided to replace Taijul Islam with Nasir Hossain, the Proteas opted to drop the out-of-form Quinton de Kock with Dane Vilas, who made his Test debut in the process.
