Rain washes out third day’s play

Dhaka: With the rain not abating, the play on the third day in the second and final test between Bangladesh and South Africa has also been washed out.
After the rain stopped in the morning, the groundsmen worked hard to get the ground ready for play and 45 overs were expected to be bowled. However, the heavens again opened up and that was it for the day. That makes it two days in a row without a ball bowled. Going into the fourth day, there are only 88.1 overs into this Test, and the first innings is still going on.
Earlier, after inspecting the ground at about 1:15pm on Saturday, the umpires scheduled 45 overs for the day, and play could go on till 6:00pm. Tea would be taken from 3:45pm to 4:05pm.
The first session of the third day in the second and final test between Bangladesh and South Africa was washed out on Saturday due to rain.
Incessant rain throughout the Saturday morning delayed the start of play on day three of the second and final Test between Bangladesh and South Africa at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka.
Earlier, the second day of the Test was called off due to incessant rain without a ball being bowled. The decision was made by the match officials after nearly three hours of delay. Bangladesh had earlier finished on a score of 246 for the loss of eight wickets after 88.1 overs at the end of Day 1, with Nasir Hossain batting on a score of 13.
The highlight of the opening day was Dale Steyn taking his 400th Test wicket, dismissing Tamim Iqbal for the same. Earlier in the Test, Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat. While the hosts decided to replace Taijul Islam with Nasir Hossain, the Proteas opted to drop the out-of-form Quinton de Kock with Dane Vilas, who made his Test debut in the process.
