Dhaka: Incessant rain for the third consecutive day washed out the entire fourth day’s play of the second and final Test between Bangladesh and South Africa at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka.

The rain stopped briefly in the morning to brighten chances of some action on the penultimate day but it started pouring again in the afternoon, forcing the match officials to abandon play for the day, reported Reuters.

The play on the final day is scheduled to begin at 9:15am on Monday.

Both the teams will be increasingly frustrated with the way the Test series has panned out so far, reported Cricket Country.

The first Test too was marred by rain and the last two days of the first Test were washed out.

In the second Test, rain washed out the entire Day Two and Day Three. One wonders with so much rain around, was it advisable to schedule a Test series right in the monsoon season.

Earlier on the opening day, Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat. Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim announced one change for his side — Nasir Hossain coming in for Taijul Islam. In the South African camp, Dane Vilas got his maiden Test cap by occupying the spot of the out-of-form Quinton de Kock.

Opening batsman Tamim Iqbal was given a second chance early in his innings, after Dean Elgar dropped him at the slips. He was soon dismissed however, getting caught by Hashim Amla in the same region to give Dale Steyn his 400th Test wicket.

Mushfiqur (65), Mominul Haque (40), Mahmudullah (35), Shakib Al Hasan (35) and Imrul Kayes (30) made useful contributions to the Bangladeshi total, before some disciplined pace bowling in the final session saw the hosts lose wickets in a heap. JP Duminy and Steyn took three wickets apiece, conceding 27 and 30 runs respectively.
