Humayun Ahmed’s birth anniversary today
Today is the 67th birth anniversary of popular writer, dramatist, filmmaker and iconic personality Humayun Ahmed.
Humayun Ahmed, who became renowned literary figure in the post-liberation Bangladesh, was born on 13 November, 1948 at Kutubpur village of Netrakona.
The novelist introduced a new lucid style of language in the realm of Bangla literature.
In the beginning of his professional life, Humayun worked as a professor at Department of Chemistry in University of Dhaka, but later he left his job to get more involved in writing.
Himu, Misir Ali, and Rupa are some of the famous characters created by the musician of words.
Humayun Ahmed was also a successful filmmaker. His popular films include Aguner Poroshmoni, Dui Duari, Srabon Megher Din, Daruchini Dip, and Ghetuputra Komola.
He also wrote songs for his films and plays.
He was awarded with Lekhak Shibir Prize (1973), Bangla Academy Award (1981), Shishu Academy Award, Jainul Abedin Gold Medal, Michael Madhusudan Medal (1987), Bacsas Prize (1988), Humayun Qadir Memorial Prize (1990), National Film Award (Best Story 1993, Best Film 1994, Best Dialogue 1994), Ekushe Podok (1994) and ShellTec Award (2007).
The legendary writer died on 19 July, 2012 at Bellevue Hospital, New York, at the age of 64 after a nine-month battle against colon cancer.
