‘The Uncaged’ begins at Alliance Française de Dhaka
The solo painting exhibition ‘Pinjormukto’ (The Uncaged) by artist Zahangir Alom has begun at the La Galerie of Alliance Française de Dhaka.
The inauguration of the exhibition was held on 1 December.
Eminent artist Professor Rafiqun Nabi was present at the occasion as the chief guest. Professor Nisar Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka, Mahfuz Anam, editor and publisher, The Daily Star also attended the opening ceremony.
Dr. Malay Bala, Associate Professor and Chairman, Department of Oriental Art, University of Dhaka delivered the curator’s speech. Bruno Plasse, Director, Alliance Française de Dhaka welcomed the guests and also presided over the opening ceremony.
Zahangir Alom’s paintings delineate the blossoming beauty and diversity of nature. As with blossoming flowers to the sun, the artworks depict a certain emblematic intercession, a solemn prayer to espouse eternity. An ardent disciple of nature, Alom observes her with both his sight and insight. He tries to capture the multifarious expressions, moods and soulful ballads of nature in, for example, his series of paintings titled ‘Mystic Romance of the Woods’. Through this observation, Alom finds himself in the midst of a fantastical mystery that captivates him and fuels him. He also becomes fascinated by the mythical nuances and the effortless grace of Bangladesh.
As an enthusiast of Baulism and Vaishnavism, Alom depicts the union of souls in a passionate way. Using watercolour he has come up with a language of his own. Each of Alom’s paintings is a testament to that. Along with his works with oil and acrylic, his art evokes an integrated form of oriental art as well as contemporary approaches.
The exhibition will come to an end on 15 December with music and dance performance.
Visiting Hours: Monday to Thursday from 3 pm to 9 pm, Friday and Saturday (9 am to12 noon and 5 pm to 8 pm). Closed on Sunday.
