48th Independence Day: JU to draw longest ever alpona

Jahangirnagar University: The authorities of Jahangirnagar University are going to draw the longest ever alpona of the country on the 2km stretch of the campus to mark the 48th Independence and National Day.

Under the management of JU Teacher-Student Centre (TSC), students of different departments will take part in the alpona drawing on the campus premises, reports the UNB.

Director of JU TSC Professor Bashir Ahmed made the disclosure at a press conference held at the teachers’ lounge of central cafeteria. 

‘To celebrate the Black Night of March 25 and Independence Day, we have decided to draw the longest alpona on the campus premises for the first time. The drawing of alpona will start from the main entrance of the university and touch its every street,’ he said.

‘Vice Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam will inaugurate the longest alpona drawing at 2:30pm on Sunday’, he added.

Meanwhile, the university has taken all preparations to celebrate the 48th Independence and National Day with elaborate programmes.

At the beginning of the day, national anthem will be played together at the central playground on the campus at 8am with the presence of teachers, students and officials of the university.

Later, VC Farzana Islam accompanied by teachers, students and officials will pay homage to the martyrs of Liberation War by placing floral wreath at the National Memorial at Savar.

Meanwhile, JU Teacher-Student Center (TSC) has organised a four-day ‘Muktisangram Festival’ to celebrate the Black Night of March 25 and Independence Day.

All administrative, academic buildings and dormitories will be illuminated with colourful lights and diet foods will be served at all residential halls.

Earlier, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology had pained the longest alpona on the stretch of 1.75km on the campus.
