Cultural body seeks time limit extension
Dhaka: Sammilita Sangskritik Jote on Tuesday asked the government to extend the time limit enforced by the law enforcers on outdoor celebration of Pahela Baishakh (Bangla New Year).
Golam Kuddus, president of the organisation, came up with the demanded at press conference at Teachers-Student Center (TSC) of Dhaka University (DU).
In a written statement, he made the demanded that the limit be extend to 8pm.
Earlier, the government instructed all cultural and other organisations to conclude celebration programmes at open places by 5:00pm on the day of Pahela Baishakh on April 14.
‘Pohela Boishakh is the largest non-communal festival of Bangladesh. In the last few years law enforcement agencies narrowed the normal environment of this festival,’ he said.
But it is not acceptable that in the name of security celebration time to be axed, he added.
Sammilita Sangskritik Jote former President Nasir Uddin Yusuf, General Secretary Hasan Arif and folk singer Fakir Alamgir among others attended the press conference.
