Feroza Begum memorial gold medal introduced at Dhaka University
A cheque of taka sixty lakhs was handed over on 23 February to University of Dhaka Vice-Chancellor to form Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal Trust Fund.
Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique received the cheque at 11:00am at VC office from M. Anis Ud Dowla, Chairman of Feroza Begum Foundation and brother of the legendary Nazrul Sangeet singer Feroza Begum. The foundation will award gold medal and scholarships to the most deserving students of the Department of Dance and Department of Music of the same university.
The trust fund is being formed in the memory of Feroza Begum, the most renowned Nazrul Sangeet singer both in Bangladesh and India. Among others were present the Nazrul legend’s another brother Brig Gen (Retd.) Mosih Ud Dowla, her two sons, rock band Miles’s vocals Hameen Ahmed and Shafin Ahmed, and her niece and disciple Nazrul singer Shusmita Anis.
Feroza Begum’s family formed the Feroza Begum Foundation last year, one year after her demise in 2014.
Besides, the foundation’s recent initiative, Shusmita Anis has opened Feroza Begum Archive on her official website: www.shusmitaanis.com. Shusmita Anis also dedicates her singing career to take forward the legacy of Feroza Begum.
