Painting exhibition: Journey with Wreckage 2
A solo painting exhibition titled Journey with Wreckage 2 by artist Bipul Shah has begun at Alliance Française de Dhaka’s La Galerie in the capital’s Dhanmondi. The inauguration of the exhibition took place on 11 March 2016.
There are thirty artworks are on display at the exhibition.
Professor Hamiduzzaman Khan, and eminent artist Professor Abul Barq Alvi were among the guests present at the inaugural ceremony. Director of Alliance Française de Dhaka Bruno Plasse welcomed the guests and presided over the ceremony, says a press release.
Broken windows, rotting tin, weather-beaten walls, and moth-eaten pieces of wood — the subjects of Bipul Shah’s artworks seem like vehicles that express things brought out in the light from a troubled consciousness as well as a state of the artist’s experienced reality. The artist deems that the constructs of human ambitions are backfiring, resulting in the destruction of men’s greatest achievements.
His artworks thus display a duality of grace and rivalry and a strange chiaroscuro of dream and nightmare. The physical properties, shapes, forms and the dynamics of Shah’s surroundings amalgamated with the beauty of nature that he simultaneously perceives give birth to a continuum that he, as an artist, braves as if he is on a journey.
Artist Bipul Shah was born in Netrokana in 1967. He obtained his MFA from Institute of Fine Art, University of Dhaka in 1992. Journey with Wreckage 2 is his eighth solo exhibition.
However, he had his first solo exhibition in 2007 titled Journey with Wreckage at Gallery Kaya.
The exhibition is open to all till 25 March 2016 from Monday to Thursday (3:00pm to 9:00pm), Friday and Saturday (9:00am to 12:00 noon and 5:00pm to 8:00pm), except for Sundays.
