Baisakh and Reinterpretation of Indigenous Art

The inauguration of the solo painting exhibition Baisakh and Reinterpretation of Indigenous Art by artist Samina Nafis will be held in Galerie Zoom on Tuesday, 12 April, 2016 at 6:00pm.
Born in 1961, Samina Nafies stood first class first in Master of Fine Arts in painting from the University of Chittagong. Nafis concentrated on rural pottery and has developed unique compositions that were featured in exhibitions both national and international, says a press release.
She works in oil and mixed media collage experimenting with messy motifs inspired by her childhood memories. She mostly follows the Folk artists and their creations. She has taken part in numerous exhibitions both in home and abroad and illustrated several books for under privileged children and other story books. She has written two books in Bangla, ‘Surrealism in Painting’ ‘Drawing and Reading of Pictures’.
The exhibition will be open to all until 25 April 2016 at Galerie Zoom, Alliance Française de Dhaka, from Monday to Thursday from (3:00pm to 9:00pm), Friday and Saturday (9:00am to12:00 noon and 5:00pm to 8:00pm), except for Sundays.
