Goethe Institute hosts talk on ‘Bangladeshi music and the world’
On Sunday, 10 April evening, Goehte-Institut Bangladesh hosted an ‘Artist Talk’ by Johannes Theurer, radio journalist and expert in the digital representation of traditional music in modern archives.
Johannes Theurer gave a talk about the insights into the international world music scene, its organisation, institutions and the best ways to get connected to it. He narrated in details about how to bring projects to the market and explain application processes, says a press release.
‘Since this scene has hardly any influence by Bangladeshi music so far, everyone who makes the step to be noticed, will be one of the firsts’, he said.
The event was well attended and caught interest among producers and talented young musicians, who are interested in being recognised by the world music scene.
‘What do I need to play at a music festival in Europe? How do I get in touch with the right people? And where can I find support? — Johannes Theurer answered all those questions and provided further opportunities for networking.
Johannes Theurer began as a print- and broadcast journalist in 1978. In the 1990s, he organised international tradeshows and music conferences and was co-founder and head of music for the intercultural Berlin radio channel ‘Radio Multikulti’. Today he works as a project manager, editor and broadcaster in Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB). He is chair of the world music group of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU/Geneva), publishes the ‘World Music Charts Europe’ and is president of the Association for Traditional Music (Berlin). In addition, he is the RBB manager for the international audio-archiving project ‘Europeana Sounds’.
