‘Impression of Surroundings-4’ begins at Alliance Française
The solo painting exhibition by Mohiuddin Ahmed Mohim titled ‘Impression of Surroundings-4’ began at La Galerie in Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD) on Friday, 3 April 2015. Opening ceremony of the exhibition was held at Café la Veranda in AFD.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy former director Syed Jahangir, artist Hamiduzzaman Khan, Finance Division additional secretary (retd) Mohammad Emdadul Hoque, and Janata Bank director Sangita Ahmed were among the guests present in the opening ceremony. Alliance Française de Dhaka director Bruno Plasse welcomed the received the guests and presided over the opening ceremony.
‘Impression of Surroundings-4’ showcases works from Mohim’s recent painting series. They are glorious yet enigmatic images, and no wonder, for Mohim creates them with an elaborate process he devised himself. Using neither physical objects nor sensitive grounds, he sources different intensities and colours image, for example, yellow, tawny orange, pale green and grey refractions and shadows articulate relief and reverse shapes.
‘Impression of Surroundings-3’ at Gallery Cosmos in Dhaka in 2013, ‘Impression of Surroundings-2’ at Dhaka Art Centre in Dhanmondi, Dhaka in 2012, ‘Impression of Surroundings-1’ at Drik Gallery in Dhanmodi, Dhaka in 2011 were his major and notable solo shows.
Born in Banimardon, Muladi, Barishal, Bangladesh in 1976, Mohiuddin Ahmed Mohim has long been viewed as an art activist in Bangladesh, practicing with his own style of painting. Mohim earns his reputation in part through his continual innovation, leading him to explore in recent years the experimental possibilities applied and urban image-making. He finished MFA from University of Development Alternative in 2004.
The exhibition is open to all until 11 April 2015 from Monday to Thursday (3:00pm to 9:00pm), Friday and Saturday (9:00am to12:00pm and 5:00pm to 8:00pm), except for Sunday.
