Firefly: Art exhibition at Alliance Française
Dhaka: The first solo painting exhibition, Firefly, by artist Lubna Charya began at Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD) on Friday (24 April) evening. Opening ceremony of the exhibition was held at AFD’s Café la Veranda.
Ministry of Public Administration secretary and also a poet Kamal Chowdhury, cultural personality Shankor Sawjal, artist and journalist AKM Zakaria were among the guests present at the opening ceremony. AFD director Bruno Plasse presided over the opening ceremony.
Lubna Charya never went to any art school. Painting, she says, is her passion, her way of dreaming, and maybe a weapon to express herself.
In her artworks she has something to say, something to share with the viewers. This is not only for beautification of art or caricature.
Lubna’s work of art is the visual form of her thoughts–little imaginary wings of life. It could be some dewdrops in the morning or glowing fireflies at night. She wants to share these moments which she noticed down the path somehow in her own life or in others’. It is kind of a visual diary with writings, symbols, colours, incidents that shook her or satire, fun, or even problems.
Lubna thinks that painting is the most trusted medium of presenting her world. Her use of acrylic colours, style of composition, colour-treatment, all are very much her own.
The exhibition will be open to all until 7 May 2015 in La Galerie, AFD from Monday to Thursday (3:00pm to 9:00pm), Friday and Saturday (9:00am to12:00pm and 5:00pm to 8:00pm), except for Sundays.
