‘River Stories’ at Bengal Art Lounge

Dhaka: Bengal Art Lounge will host a solo exhibition of paintings and painted objects, ‘River Stories’, by Vinita Karim, on Saturday 16 May at 6:00pm.
Conceived as an ode to Bengal and its countless rivers, the exhibition features a selection of the most recent works by the acclaimed painter. The pictorial technique on display in ‘River Stories’ is characterised by vivid colours and a distinctive rendition of forms and shapes which departs from the language reality. Vinita Karim's paintings give access to a world of its own; a utopia best defined by serenity and beauty.
Deeply influenced by Vinita's lifelong travels, her painting style boasts clear influences from the visual traditions of the Arab peninsula and the Far East. But ‘River Stories’ is deeply rooted in Bangladesh: it plunges the viewer into the magic of its riverine delta and recalls the glory of its fabled cities.
The painter's original use of local materials such as muslin, which she directly stitches onto the canvas, complete the special experience proposed in ‘River Stories’.
The exhibition will run until 6 June from 12:00noon to 8:00pm.
