Dhaka: On 16 March, the inauguration of two exhibitions – ‘#60 Solutions Against Climate Change’ by Yann Arthus-Bertrand, and ‘Local Impact of Global Change’ by Jules Toulet - were held at Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD) as part of the programme ‘Bridging Climate Change and Development’.
The event, jointly organised by Agence Française de Développement, AFD, and French embassy in Dhaka, was launched by ambassador of France to Bangladesh Sophie Aubert, and Bangladesh foreign secretary Mohammad Shahidul Haque.
To stimulate Students interest, a quiz on the exhibition will be available during the visit of the exhibition.
Bangladesh is one of the most at-risk countries to climate change impact. Climate scientists project there will be a 3-foot rise in the sea level by 2100, which would submerge 17.5% of Bangladesh and force around 20 million Bangladeshi off their land.
The delta of the Ganges is one of the most exposed regions due to the force of the rising waters, strong monsoons, the erosion of river banks and embankments, flood, soil salinification, and the increasing number of cyclones. The town of Chalna, 50 kilometres away from Khulna, is located by the river Pashur.
Jules Toulet wanted to meet the local people who will be the first victims of this global mechanics, despite their ecological footprint being close to zero. The series of 20 black and white photographs on display is a testimony to raise awareness globally.
Drop in your own idea to tackle the challenge of climate change and be the 61st Solution. A special prize will be awarded for the best proposal.
The event includes a series of round-tables. The exhibitions are on display till 23 May.
