Solo cartoon exhibition ‘Janala’ begins at La Galerie
Dhaka: The 6th solo cartoon exhibition titled ‘Janala’ by Dr. Sajid Bin Doza Bonny, began at La Galerie of Alliance Française de Dhaka. The opening ceremony of the exhibition was held on Monday, January 16, 2017.
President of Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) Kazi Golam Nasir was present on the occasion as the chief guest and eminent cartoonist Ahsan Habib also attended the inaugural ceremony as the guest of honour.
According to Dr Sajid Bin Doza Bonny, ‘Cartoon is the authentic medium to deliver the real essence of humour.’ Having visited many parts of Bangladesh and by immersing himself in different social structures, Bonny was able to identify that life is sometimes convergent in nature even when the culture and its underlying contexts are different to each other; but life is simple and people try to keep their lives cheerful if possible.
The concept of this exhibition ‘Janala’ is about ‘observation’. Beginning as a little child’s beautiful dear window at the edge of the room, ‘observation’ has a profound intimacy with windows that is powerfully nurtured over the span of a person’s life. Through the windows, one may see the beauty of nature, smiles and sorrows of individuals, activities of the simple people of the delta land, culture, habits and many other things. With the change of time, one may see — through that window — one’s dreams or aspirations, and patterns of a longed life. In this exhibition, Bonny interprets these windows using the global and universal language of cartoon.
The exhibition will be open to all till 24 January from Monday to Thursday. Starting from 3:00pm the exhibition will continue till 9:00 pm. However, the display will open on Friday and Saturday from about 9:00am to 12:00 pm and 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm respectively. The show will be closed on Sunday.
