‘My Beloved Motherland 5’ begins at Alliance Française
Dhaka: Mohammad Abu Salim’s cartoon exhibition ‘My Beloved Motherland 5’ began in Galerie Zoom, Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD) on Friday, 22 May 2015, evening.
Opening of the exhibition was held at AFD’s Café la Veranda.
Emeritus Professor Dr Anisuzzaman was present as the chief guest with Dhaka University fine arts professor Nisar Hossain was present as the special guest.
The exhibition is the fifth edition of Abu Salim’s exhibition series ‘My Beloved Motherland.’ Based on Salim’s recent works, this edition enunciates Salim’s take on all the demoralising lineaments that plague his country which he dubs as his most beloved.
The main focus of his exhibition remains the same like his previous works from the series: to denounce corruption, terrorism, poverty, and dominance of muscle-power in society and politics, as well as national issues like land and river appropriation, environment pollution, moral degradation etc.
Salim, as a Bangladeshi, feels an obligation to express his observation and incorruptible feelings through his cartoons to say ‘no.’ A no to all the wrongdoings that are being perpetrated by a handful of people that impair and cause sufferings for the whole nation.
It‘s been 45 years since we have our independence but Selim cannot help asking the question– ‘Have we achieved the independence that we bargained for?’
The exhibition will be open to all until 5 June 2015 at Galerie Zoom from Monday to Thursday (3:00 to 9:00pm), Friday and Saturday (9:00 to 12:00noon and 5:00 to 8:00pm), except for Sundays.
