Artist talk at Goethe-Institut
Goethe-Institut Bangladesh, in association with Depart, a biannual art magazine, is bringing art historian, art critic and curator Susanne Altmann from Germany for an artist talk to be held on 8 February at 6:00pm at the Berlin Hall of Goethe Institut.
Susanne Altmann will talk about her recent curatorial practice. Lately she has curated projects that are dealing issues of gender and feminism.
Her exhibition ‘Discovered! Rebellious women from the late GDR’ at the Mannheim Kunsthalle in 2011 introduced a hitherto largely unknown tendency of experimental women art in the 1980s in communist Eastern Germany.
By investigating how the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1989 affected artistic production in the countries of Eastern Europa, Susanne Altmann has also conceptualised a series of video art presentations between 2008 and 2014.
She will also give an overview about her community-based and public art projects and emphasise on the importance of creative strategies outside of institutions.
Susanne Altmann is coming to Bangladesh in preparation of a video art project focused mainly on female art production in the region, addressing questions of gender and identity.
