3 writers win BRAC Bank-Samakal Literary Award
Dhaka: Three writers—Harishangkar Jaldas, Sushmita Islam and Muzib Erom—have won BRAC Bank-Samakal Literary Awards 2014 for their books in different issues.
Harishangkar Jaldas won the award for his book Protidondi in poetry and novel category, Sushmita Islam for her book Amar Dinguli in essay, autobiography, travel story and translation category, and Muzib Erom for his book Kobibangsho in Humayun Ahmed Young Writer category.
BRAC Bank and Daily Samakal launched the literary award in 2011 to inspire writers and litterateurs to further enriching Bangla literature with their creative works. Later Young Writer’s Award was dedicated in memory of late legendary novelist Humayun Ahmed.
The award was announced at a programme at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Dhaka on 12 June, 2015.
Literary personalities and social elites of the country attended the award programme.
Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Managing, Director & CEO of BRAC Bank Limited, and Mr. Golam Sarwar, Editor of Daily Samakal, were present.
Winners in each category received Tk 1lakh as prize money. The winners also received crest and citation. The three winning books were selected from books published in the year 2014.
Since its inception the literary award has generated huge enthusiasm in literary community of Bangladesh. A total of 476 books were submitted this year for the three categories.
A panel of jury comprising Prof. Mustafa Nurul Islam, Prof. Sirajul Islam Chowdhury, Poet Asad Chowdhury and novelist Selina Hossain has selected the winning books.
This literary award will inspire creative minds and will provide writers especially the young writers a platform to practice and flourish in literature. Reader community will get quality books.
BRAC Bank and Samakal will work together to make this award the most prestigious and coveted literary award in Bangladesh. Winning of the award will be of a thing of great pride for writers and litterateurs.
