Dhaka: Artist AR Rumy’s solo art exhibition, Puzzle of Myth, has begun at La Galerie in Alliance Française de Dhaka. The inauguration of the exhibition was held on 7 August 2015 at 5:30pm.

State minister of Information and Communication Technology ministry Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Abed Holdings Ltd managing director AKM Barkatullah, and Protibuddijibi magazine editor Sadat Ullah Khan were among the guests present at the inauguration.

Puzzle of Myth

One’s own individual creation bears his or her personal taste, tendency, dream, desire, and sentiment. But all individuals become influenced by their surroundings, more or less. Genetic factors and environment guide our nerves. We learn and follow in order to exist.

Rumy’s exhibition showcases a number of aesthetic pieces, drawn with soothing splashes of colours representing our heritage. Our traditional motifs expressing rituals, beliefs etc. are shown in his subtle strokes of pen and brush. He has drawn the stories of the past to the present.

Rumy is prominently guided by geometry. His forms, composition and sense of proportion remind it repeatedly. Rumy has worked on traditional shital pati — floor-mats made from plant fiber — sholar pakhi, one of the items from the good old days of village fairs, nokshi kantha, ceremonial masks, painted pitchers etc. Red, yellow and black are distinct in his artworks.

Born in 1979, Rumy completed his under-graduation in Fine Arts from Rajshahi University and post-graduation from University of Development Alternative, where he is currently teaching.

In 2006 he did his first solo show at Chuwa Gallery, Tokyo in Japan. Besides, he also participated in a number of group art exhibitions in home and abroad.

The exhibition is open to all till 22 August from Monday to Thursday (3:00pm to 9:00pm), Friday and Saturday (9:00am to 12:00 noon and 5:00pm to 8:00pm), except for Sundays.
