Understanding Dance with Sharmila
Dhaka: The cultural centre, Bengal Foundation, will organise Chapter Six of the monthly series ‘Understanding Dance with Sharmila Banerjee' on 25 August at about 7:00pm at the Daily Star-Bengal Arts Precinct in Kawran Bazaar, Dhaka.
The latest episode Chapter 6: Folk and Tribal Dance Part I will be curated and presented by celebrated artist, choreographer and educator, Sharmila Banerjee.
Sharmila is currently head of the dance department at Chhayanaut and is founder-director of her own dance institution of Nritya Nandan in Dhaka.
The event will be an evening of lectures and demonstrations complimented by audio-visual content and practical demonstrations of various forms of Folk and Tribal dances from
Bangladesh and West Bengal in India.
The focus of this episode will be—Introduction, history and evolution of Folk and Tribal dance forms, their significance Folk and Tribal dance in the culture of Bangladesh, and demonstration of Folk dances such as Pata nach, Paik nach, Mayurbhanj Chhau, Tripura, Jum Nach, Raibenshe and many more.
The performers of the program are Afsana Islam, Sudeshna Swayamprabha, Mehraj Haque Tushar,
Ira Bala, Krishna Roy, Falguni Sen, Shafiqul Islam, Farhad Ahmed Shamim, Jasimuddin, Chandra Tripura, Jhilik Chakma, Sudha Chakma, Nai aye sing Tutu, Ashainu Marma, and Bipasha Chakma.
