Dhaka: Government is implementing plans to shift all factories outside Dhaka, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu told Parliament on Sunday.

Responding to a question of a government party lawmaker, the minister said the government had already set up three industrial zones at Kandibailarpur and Chandranarayanpur at Savar and at Charnarayanpur at Keraniganj in Dhaka to relocate tanneries from Dhaka’s Hazaribagh.

An area at Sirajdikhan in Munshiganj had been chosen to relocate the plastic and printing industries registered under the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation from the cities of Dhaka.

Chemical storehouses and factories would be shifted to Sonagandha in Keraniganj in Dhaka, the minister added.

The government is also planning to relocate electrical goods manufacturing and light engineering factories to Munshiganj district.

The minister said the Zamdani industrial area had already been shifted to Keraniganj, Dhamrai and Tarabo and Hosiery industry to at Panchabati in Fatulla in Dhaka.
