Jukta Front for holding election Dec 30
Dhaka: Jukta Front, led by Dr Badruddoza Chowdhury, on Thursday night demanded that the 11th parliamentary elections be held on December 30 instead of December 23.
He also demanded that all dates, including that of submission of nomination, scrutiny, and withdrawal of nomination papers, be deferred for one week, reports the UNB.
B Chowdhury, on behalf of the alliance, made the call in a statement issued after the announcement of the election schedule.
He demanded the EC defer the last date for submitting nomination papers to November 26 instead of November 19 while the date for scrutinising nomination papers to November 29 instead of November 22 and the last date for the withdrawal of nomination papers to December 6 instead of November 29.
Deeply analysing the schedule, B Chowdhury said they think very limited time has been given for the submission of nomination papers, and it will be difficult to complete the necessary election process within the given time as per the schedule.
Earlier in the evening, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda in a televised address to the nation announced the schedule for the next general election.
As per the schedule, the 11th parliamentary elections will be held on December 23 (Sunday) while the last date for submitting nomination papers is November 19, the date for scrutinising nomination papers is November 22 and the last date for the withdrawal of nomination papers is November 29.
