Dhaka: Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said on Monday that the announcement of the official list of Awami League-led Grand Alliance and 14-party alliance nominated candidates will take more time for the strategic and tactical reason.

Quader made the remarks this Monday at a press briefing in the political office of Awami League President Sheikh Hasina in the city’s Dhanmondi, reports the UNB.

He also said ‘The party will take more time to take the final decision after more scrutiny about the candidate. So changes in the nominated candidate will not be unusual. But the number of AL’s alliance partners in the 14-party Mohajote will not exceed 65 to 70 seats to compete in between them.’

Qader said ‘231 letters were given so far. We do not want to be loser strategically. We have to move forward. We do not want to be backward from anyone strategically.’

He said ‘We will release the full and final list after sometime. We made a list for party, not for media. We did not give the letters to many candidates who came in the media. It’s confusing.’

Quader also earnestly requested the media not to publish any names before the official announcement for avoiding any embarrassment.

He said ‘The other allies of the alliance also started giving nomination in the same manner. The Jatiya Party, Bikalpadhdara and the 14-party are also issuing letter. We will publish the full and final list after further scrutiny considering all’s nomination.’

‘We have issued double nomination in some places. Later, the list will be finalized after the field level survey,’ Qader added.

Awami League on Sunday issued letters to the aspirants for 231 candidates who have been selected to contest the upcoming 11th parliamentary elections.

The party’s General Secretary Obaidul Quader started handing over the nomination papers among candidates on Saturday.

The nomination seekers received the nomination letters from the party office on Sunday while a number of new candidates were on the list and few heavy weight candidates did not receive the party ticket.

Awami League on November 9 started selling its nomination papers for the forthcoming 11th parliamentary elections.

The 11th general election will be held across Bangladesh on December 30. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is December 9 and returning officers will scrutinize the nomination papers on December 2.

According to the schedule, candidates must file their nomination papers either online, or manually, by November 28.
