BNP candidates Rony, Milton cleared for polls
Dhaka: The Election Commission on Thursday cleared the candidature of several BNP aspirants, including Golam Maula Rony of Patuakhali-3 and Morshed Milton of Bagura-7, to contest the 11th general election.
The Election Commission, the appellate authority, cleared them off the rejection list during the first hours of hearing at Nirbachan Bhaban in the city on Thursday, reports the UNB.
Golam Maula Rony, Morshed Milton, Khandaker Abu Ashfaq of Dhaka-1, Tamij Uddin of Dhaka-20 and Major (retd) Akhteruzzaman of Kishoreganj-2 constituencies are among those who got back their candidacy.
Morshed Milton is BNP’s lone candidate for Bagura-7 constituency.
Earlier, the EC started hearing on the petitions around 10 am and disposed of several petitions instantly.
Some 160 petitions will be disposed of on Thursday maintaining the serials of the appeals while 150 on Friday and the remaining 233 will be sorted out on Saturday.
A total of 543 petitions were filed with the Election Commission within stipulated three days till Wednesday challenging the decisions of returning officers over the rejection and acceptance of nomination papers submitted by aspirants to contest the next national election.
Of them, 222 petitions were submitted on Wednesday while 237 on Tuesday and 84 on Monday.
The national election is scheduled to be held on December 30.
