Dhaka: Election Commission Secretary Helaluddin Ahmad on Thursday said the election to Gaibandha-3 constituency has been postponed as per the country’s electoral law following the death of an alliance candidate, reports the UNB.

‘A new date will be announced soon,’ said the EC Secretary while talking to reporters at Nirbachan Bhaban in the city after officially installing Village Police on election duty.

He said, ‘As per the law, voting in Gaibandha-3 is postponed. The returning officer working there will inform the Commission along with the death certificate and the Commissioners will take the necessary steps.’

Dr TIM Fazle Rabbi, a BNP-led 20-party alliance candidate for Gaibandha-3 constituency, passed away due to old age complications at a city hospital early Thursday.
