49 reserved seat candidates elected uncontested
Dhaka: Forty-nine candidates, vying for the reserved seats in the 11th parliament, have been elected unopposed.
Returning Officer Abul Kashem declared them unofficial victors on Saturday afternoon after deadline for withdrawing candidature expired. Now, the Election Commission will publish a gazette.
There are 50 reserved seats in parliament for women, reports the UNB.
Of the 49 elected, 43 are from ruling Awami League, four from Jatiya Party, one from Workers Party and another one is independent.
The BNP, which won six seats in the December 30 election, will get one reserved seat according to the proportional representation in parliament. But none of its MPs-elect have taken oath of office.
The reserved seats were scheduled to go to polls on March 4.
Unofficially elected AL MPs are – Suborna Mostafa, Shirin Ahmed, Zinnatul Bakia, Shabnam Jahan Shila, and Nahid Ijhar Khan (Dhaka), Khadizatul Anwar and Wasika Ayesha Khan (Chattogram), Kaniz Fatema Ahmed (Cox’s Bazar), Bashanti Chakma (Khagrachhari), Anjum Sultana and Arma Dutta (Cumilla), Umme Fatema Nazma Begum (Brahmanbaria), Shamsunnahar Bhuiyan and Rumana Ali (Gazipur), Sultana Nadira (Barguna), Hosne Ara (Jamalpur), Habiba Rahman Khan Shefali and Zakia Parvin Khanam (Netrakona), Sheikh Any Rahman (Pirojpur), Aparajita Haque and Khandaker Mamata Hena Lovely (Tangail), Shamima Akter Khanam (Sunamganj), Fazilatun Nesa (Munshiganj), Rabeya Alim (Nilphamari), Tamanna Nusrat Bubli (Narsingdi), Nargis Rahman (Gopalganj), Manira Sultana (Mymensingh), Khaleda Khanam (Jhenaidah), Syeda Rubina Mira (Barishal), Kazi Kaniz Sultana (Patuakhali), Advocate Gloria Jharna Sarker (Khulna), Zakia Tabassum (Dinajpur), Farida Khanom Saki (Noakhali), Roshema Begum (Faridpur), Syeda Rashida Begum (Kushtia), Syeda Zohra Alauddin (Moulvibazar), Adiba Anjum Mita (Rajshahi), Ferdousi Islam Jessy (Chapainawaganj), Parvin Haque Sikder (Shariatpur), Tahmina Begum (Madaripur), Khodeza Nasrin Akter Hossain (Rajbari), Nadira Yasmin Jolly (Pabna) and Ratna Ahmed (Natore).
The Jatiya Party MPs are – Salma Islam, Rowshan Ara Mannan, Nazma Akter and Masuda M Rashid Chowdhury.
The other ones are Workers Party’s Lutfun Nesa Khan and independent Selina Islam.
