Stunning snaps of frozen landscape brought to life with blazing sun reflection
These stunning photographs really do show a land of fire and ice!
The frozen landscape of the Olkhon Islands, Russia, appears to be ablaze in some of these pictures as the icy sheets of the glaciers reflect the early morning sun’s rays.
Despite the sub-zero temperatures on the islands, the island is frequently bathed in a low sunlight during the winter months – leading to the formation of these incredible caves, full of icy stalactites, reports the Story Trender.
Photographer Vladimir Ryabkov, from Moscow, snapped these incredible images during a visit in March.
He said: ‘The island of Olkhon on Lake Baikal is a photographic mecca. People from all over the world come here to photograph Baikal ice and ice grottos and ice-splashes.
‘When I am there, it reminds me of when I was a child and I read Anderson’s fairy tale about a snow queen, then I read it to my children.
‘I feel a wonderful and fascinating world of pure ice, as though I am in an amazing ice fairy tale.
‘Baikal is one of the world’s pearls.’
