Cosmic Beauty on display at Alliance Française
Cosmic Beauty, a painting exhibition by artist Bimanesh Biswas has begun at La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka.
The inauguration of the exhibition was held on 5 February 2016. A book about vanguard artist SM Sultan, An Artistic Lifestyle of Verity by Subhash Biswas was also launched during the inaugural session.
Emeritus Professor of University of Dhaka Anisuzzaman, State Minister for Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology posts and telecommunication Tarana Halim, Professor Abul Barq Alvi, Faculty of Fine Arts of University of Dhaka, and , social activist SM Kamal Hossain were among the guests present at the inauguration.
Born in Narail in 1953, Bimanesh Biswas completed his BAF from University of Dhaka in 1980. Currently, he is teaching at Department of Drawing and Painting, Institute of Fine Arts at University of Khulna.
‘A reflection of the cosmic kind,” artist Bimanesh Biswas replied laconically to the question as to what he aims for while painting his pieces. His watercolours show villages, riverbanks, rural waterways, and mangrove forest ‘The Sundarbans’.
Mentored by the eminent artist SM Sultan during his childhood, Biswas experienced a rich context that helped him find himself artistically later in his life. He utilizes both watercolour and acrylic to limn natural sceneries presenting the viewers with lush greenery, the esoteric beauty of Bangladesh.
The book SM Sultan, An Artistic Lifestyle of Verity by Subhash Biswas is enriched with many known and yet unknown information on SM Sultan. SM Sultan’s footprint is found in many different branches of art; as such, rare details of his contributions in Pattachitra, woodwork, pottery, idols etc. have made this book valuable.
The exhibition is open to all till 19 February 2016 from Monday to Thursday (3:00pm to 9:00pm), Friday and Saturday (9:00am to 12 noon and 5:00pm to 8:00pm), except for Sundays.
