Bangabandhu’s ancestral home to be preserved as heritage site
Dhaka: The government has taken an initiative to preserve the Tungipara ancestral home of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Gopalganj district as a heritage site.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor came up with the information while talking to reporters at the Secretariat on Monday.
On behalf of the ministry, Noor said, he placed a proposal before Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Cabinet meeting today.
Three presentations were also placed on how the house will be preserved as many hard copies of the documentaries were handed over to the Prime Minister, the minister said.
Replying to a query, he said the Prime Minister was pleased at the proposal and she will take her decision in this regard in the next few days.
The ancestral home of Bangabandhu was reclaimed five-six years ago but it was not properly preserved yet, Noor said. ‘That’s why the ministry has taken the initiative to preserve it in its own shape and position,’ he added.
He also said there will be no change in the structure.
