It has circulated that a Sowetan man working as a security guard sexually assaulted 54 primary school girls.

He was dragged to the Protea Magistrates’ Court recently to face the charges against him. Confirming this incident, Steve Mabona the spokesperson of Gauteng education divulged that the Sowetan man was arrested on mid-October after two girls, a Grade 2 and Grade 6 learners opened a case against him.

It is said that the case the girls brought forth against the security guard encouraged other learners to open up about his pervasive sexual harassment. In all, it was alleged that he has sexually assaulted 54 girls in South Africa.
‘During interaction with learners, it was … established that he assaulted 54 girls at the school … the case is quite sensitive and after investigations by our team we will have a better understanding of the situation at the school,’ said Mabona.

Reporting this, IOL related that a mother whose 6-year-old daughter is believed to be one of the suspect’s victims divulged that the security guard sexually assaulted her kid on a regular basis, reports the BuzzSouthAfrica.

According to the mother, she received a message that invited her to a local clinic. The message was from her daughter’s dad and it said – ‘something bad has happened to our daughter.’
‘When I arrived at the clinic, I was informed that my daughter had been sexually abused and I broke down. The nurse asked my daughter what had happened and my daughter told her that mkhulu (grandpa) keeps touching her inappropriately, saying the security guard had put his fingers in her vaginal area,’ narrated the distressed mum.

Similarly, another mum related that the security guard touched her 6-year-old daughter’s private parts for several months.

She was quoted to have said, ‘It was hard for me to listen to my daughter give a statement to the police because I could see how hurt she was by this ordeal. ‘I will have to monitor my child to see if there are any lasting effects, but I hope the Gauteng Department of Education will provide counselling for her.’

Already, Gauteng education MEC, Panyaza Lesuf has asserted that the incident is disheartening. From what we gathered, social workers have been deployed to the school.
