Another shocking incidence of medical apathy and negligence in India has come up, this time from Batlagundu Government hospital in the state of Tamil Nadu. Disturbing visuals have emerged from the hospital where a worker, not a doctor or a nurse, can be seen suturing the wound on the face of a woman. A deeper investigation into the matter has been ordered by the Tamil Nadu State Health Department soon after the video surfaced across social media.

The untrained worker, in the 40-second clip, is being shown to be sewing up a wound on the nose of apparently an accident victim, who can be seen shrieking in pain, without even wearing gloves or uniform, reports timesnownews.com.

Dindigul’s Joint Director of the Health Department, Dr Malathi while confirming the veracity of the video clip told NDTV that he is investigating the case and only after that he would be able to get a clear picture. The man seen stitching the wound is a multipurpose health worker of the hospital, he further claimed.

Earlier this week, in another case of medical apathy, a five-year-old named Bulbul Kudiyam died as the oxygen cylinder attached to her ventilator system ran out of gas in the ambulance while being transported from one hospital to another. The nearest hospital to the scene plainly denied medical aid or an auxiliary cylinder on being contacted by the ambulance driver.

Another case of medical negligence was reported from a government hospital at Kanpur where the ward boy at the hospital was captured treating a woman with a severe head injury outside the emergency ward under extremely unhygienic conditions. The woman was made to sit on the dirty floor outside and was operated on by not the nurse, nor the doctor but the ward boy despite the fact that this was a medico-legal case which should have been treated with utmost sincerity.
