Video: Doctors pluck eleven live worms from baby's eye
Doctors in China have released graphic footage of them removing 11 live worms from a baby's eye.
According to reports, the five-month-old child, named only as Dong Dong, contracted a horrific roundworm infection from a neighbour's pet and had to have surgery.
The mother took the child to hospital after she noticed her baby was extremely uncomfortable, and spotted something in one of the eyes, reports the Mirror.
Five-month-old Dong Dong was inspected by medics and found to be suffering from a nematode infection, with doctors finding numerous worms slithering on the surface of the eyeball as well as inside the eyelid.
Footage, filmed on October 17, shows the procedure, which took just 21 minutes, being carried out by skilled doctors.
They removed no less than 11 worms, which are believed to be Thelazia callipaeda - a parasitic nematode first discovered in China over 100 years ago.
Dong Dong is still receiving treatment.
