Enforce electoral code of conduct, EC asks IGP
Dhaka: The Election Commission has asked the law enforcers to take necessary measures so that the election aspirants and their supporters follow the electoral code of conduct while collecting and submitting nomination forms from and to the offices of their parties.
The Commission sent a letter to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) on Tuesday in this regard, reports the UNB.
Citing reports of different print and electronic media, the letter says probable candidates were using motorcades, showdowns and processions with motorcycles or other vehicles during the collection and submission of nomination forms from the offices of their respective parties which is a clear violation of the electoral code of conduct.
No registered political party or its nominated candidate or any independent candidate or no one else on behalf of them can bring out any procession or showdown during the submission of nomination papers, it says.
The Election Commission has asked the law enforcers to take steps so that there is no repeat of such incident during the submission of nomination papers to the offices of the returning officers or assistance returning officers.
