A British actress said she was ‘in the middle’ of the terror attack in Barcelona.

Laila Rouass, who has starred in Spooks, Holby City and Footballer's Wives as well as competing on Strictly Come Dancing, wrote on Twitter that she had been caught up in the atrocity that left more than a dozen people dead, reports the Evening Standard.

Rouass, 46, tweeted she was in the area when the attack took place and hid inside a restaurant freezer for her safety.

The former Holby City star said: ‘In the middle of the attack. Hiding in a restaurant freezer. Happened so fast. Praying for the safety of everyone here.’

As events unfolded she posted everything she could see and hear, including a video of a helicopter flying over the area.

‘The whole of #lasRamblas and surrounding roads in lock down with armed police everywhere,’ she said.

She added: ‘Hearing 1 suspect just been shot’.

Later on in the evening, she told her followers she was ‘safe’ and thanked those working at the restaurant for handling the situation, reports metro.co.uk.

Laila said: ‘Thank you to the staff at the restaurant for staying calm and keeping us safe.

‘I love you Barcelona’.

One man has been arrested in connection with the attack while two other suspects were killed in a shootout with police.
