Australia updates travel alert
The Australian government on Wednesday alerted its citizens about possible attack on hotels and clubs in Dhaka in late December, possibly in connection with New Year celebrations.
‘The level of advice has not changed. You should exercise a high degree of caution in Bangladesh,’ the travel advisory of the Australian government reads.
It said Australians should exercise particular caution when visiting public places, including bars, hotels and events and locations frequented by foreigners, during the holiday period between Christmas and New Year.
The updated travel advisory mentioned that the US government warned of possible attacks on hotels and clubs in Dhaka, possibly in connection with New Year celebrations.
In addition, Dhaka Metropolitan Police has announced increased security measures on 31 December, including prohibiting outdoor parties in Dhaka after 8:00pm.
There will be increased checkpoints in the areas of Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and the University of Dhaka.
