Australia government gives a ‘Citizen of the year’ award for acknowledging the contribution of Australians at a local community level every year. This year, Bangladeshi-origin journalist Rashed Srabon won the award on 25 January.

Rashed Srabon is the only Bangladeshi who was nominated for the award from City of Bank Town and Canterbury. The award winner is the chief official of International Television Channel (NTV) Australia.

After receiving his award, Rashed said, ‘It is not important from where you came or in which race you do belong. You are an Australian that is your identity, which really matters.’

Born in Noakhali, a South-eastern district of Bangladesh, Rashed completed his graduation from International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC) in Finance and Banking under the Faculty of Business Administration. After his graduation, he went to Australia, where he did his post-graduation on Human Resource and Industrial Relation in Western Sydney University. Currently, he is studying for his PHD on Human Resource Development.

Rashed Srabon, son of a freedom fighter, is the founding president of Bangladesh Student Association in Australia. Moreover, he is the founder of Bangladesh Pressclub in Australia and the general secretary of the organisation.

Councillor Shahe Zaman Titu said Bangladeshi community is celebrating the achievement of Rashed for receiving the honour of Australian government.

About Rashed Srabon’s achievement, Councillor Nazmul Huda said a Bangladeshi won this award in a short period, which will lead our community to brighter future.

NTV Australia Public Relation Officer Saimon Sarwar said, ‘It is a milestone for the future generation.’
