A young bullfighter was stabbed in the backside by a raging bull's horns mid show leaving him injured and bloodied.

The dramatic moment was captured on camera during a performance in the French town of Arles, near Marseille on Sunday, reports the Mirror.

The event was part of the Feria de Paques Easter festivities - which also traditionally marks the start of the French bullfighting season.

But things took a turn for the worse when 20-year-old Andy Younes found himself getting gored by the animal, Toril TV showed.

Footage shows the matador baiting the bull with his red cape.

But instead of running through the cloth the animal manages to get behind the 20-year-old and knocks him to the ground with his horns.

At first it is unclear whether or not the bull is still drawn to the red cape but after a second glance at the man lying on the ground next to him the bull takes charge.

The bullfighter can be seen covering his head with his hands as he tries to protect himself from the bull.

But the bull gets his horns underneath him and flings him to the air several times, stabbing him with the sharp points.

Several other matadors come running into the ring to try and rescue the 20-year-old, and while some of them get the beast under control, the fighter rolls himself to the other side of the arena.

The men get the young matador to his feet but his injuries are clear to see as he grimaces in pain and blood can be seen trickling down his back.

But it appears it is not enough to make him leave the ring as he continues on with the performance to the cheers of the crowd. Andy first entered the bullring as aged five and has performed his whole life and is no stranger to getting injured in the dangerous sport.

Last July he was gored in Madrid in his thighs and ankles, the Sun reports.

He was then thrown to the ground which caused him to suffer a traumatic brain injury.
