A man was caught on video igniting a massive burst of flames at a gas station on Staten Island — nearly setting himself on fire, cops said.
The suspect was filling a portable gas tank outside a 7/11 at Richmond Avenue and Victory Boulevard early Monday morning when he appeared to intentionally spray the gas on the floor and lit a piece of paper with a match, according to police, reports the New York Post.
He then throws the lit paper on the floor and a massive burst of flames can be seen on the video.
The suspect ran away from the flames to avoid being engulfed in the blaze and the station’s fire suppression system quickly extinguished the fire.
A 21-year-old man nearby suffered minor injuries in the blaze.
The suspect fled the scene.
