Chennai, India: A swift response of a young constable of Railway Protection Force (RPF) saved a 60-year-old passenger from falling on the Egmore's railway track after he slipped while trying boarding a moving train.

The busy Egmore railway junction witnessed the dramatic incident on Monday, reports the newindianexpress.com. 

The Chennai Egmore – Sengottai Podhigai Express scheduled to leave at 8.55 pm, was stationed at platform number 5 and the RPF constable, Pramod Singh, was deployed for security duty in sleeper coach between Chennai Egmore and Villupuram. 

At around 8.58 p.m, as the train started leaving the platform, Singh guided the last minute passengers to get into the nearby coaches and boarded into the S3 coach.

As the train moved, four passengers including a 60-year-old man tried entering into the S4 coach. On seeing them, Singh immediately got down from the moving train and neared the crowd.

However, unfortunately, the elderly man who was trying to board the compartment slipped and struggled for a few seconds between the track and the train.

Singh, in a fraction of second, pulled the man out from the track and helped him get back on the platform. The officer then boarded into the S3 coach on the same train for escort duty. While the elderly man was reportedly given counsel and then sent through another train.

RPF officials said, on an average about 20 to 30 passengers try to board trains at last minute at Egmore railway station.

‘We have instructed the escort duty personnel to monitor the passenger movement until the train leave's the station,’ said an officer.

The officials have appreciated the constable for his timely response.
