UN HR body to review Bangladesh situation Mar 6-7
UN Human Rights Committee will review civil and political rights situations in Bangladesh on March 6-7 in Geneva.
The Committee will also hear from NGOs and national human rights institutions.
The UN Human Rights Committee monitors implementation by States of one of the main international human rights treaties, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), reports UNB.
The review meeting will be held in Geneva from March 6-29.
The Committee will also review situations in Serbia (March 7-8); Turkmenistan (March 8-9); Italy (March 9-10); Thailand (March 13 -14); Bosnia and Herzegovina (March 14-15), according to a message UNB received from Geneva on Wednesday.
The above are among the 169 States that have ratified the ICCPR and so are required to be reviewed regularly by the Committee of 18 international independent experts.
The public sessions, which will be webcast at http://webtv.un.org/, will take place from 10:00-13:00 and 15:00-18:00 at Palais Wilson, Geneva.
