Video: Crowded escalator suddenly speeds up and collapses
A video of an out-of-control escalator has gone viral after it hurled down commuters at a train station in Italy.
According to a New York Post report, the speeding escalator has injured at least 20 people. The incident, which took place at the Piazza Della Repubblica in Rome, took place when the escalator suddenly sped up and stopped.
Several videos of the incident were shared on social media. In the viral video, the passengers can be seen clinging onto the railing as the escalator speed up, resulting in a pile-up at the bottom.
According to The Guardian, the Rome authorities have launched two investigations in the incident. Several firefighters worked together to help rescue the people trapped between the metal plates of the escalator’s steps.
