Syed Manzoorul Islam elected President of Pen Bangladesh
Eminent fiction writer and literary critic Syed Manzoorul Islam and litterateur Mohammad Moheuddin were elected President and Secretary General of the Executive Committee of Pen Bangladesh respectively for the next three years.
The election to the committee for 2018-2020 was held at the 45th Annual General Meeting of Pen Bangladesh at La Vinci hotel in the city, Mohammad Moheuddin told UNB on Monday.
The election was conducted by fiction writer Moinul Ahsan Saber and poets Asad Mannan and Shihab Shahariar.
Syed Manzoorul Islam, also a professor of English Department at Dhaka University, said, ‘This is my first and last term as the President. I wish to build PEN as a platform for the young generation.’
PEN Bangladesh’s outgoing President Farida Hossain and its Adviser Kazi Anis Ahmed were, among others, present.
Besides, Rabindra University Vice Chancellor Biswajit Ghose, writer Ahmed Reza and Maleka Ferdousi were elected vice presidents, while Ferdousi Mahmud and Lovely Bashar were elected joint secretaries general of the committee.
Apart from them, Anis Mohammad was elected treasurer of the new committee, while Shakira Parveenits publicity editor and Hamim Kamrul Haqueits librarians.
The executive members of the new committee are fiction writer Parvez Hossain, poet Shamim Reza, literary editors Rifat Munim and Zahid Sohag, and writer Zahanara Parveen.
