Int’l Bengali Lit Conf to begin in city Saturday

The three-day ‘International Bengali Literature Conference’ will begin at Bangla Academy on Saturday.

International Bangla Literature Conference Organiser Parishad will arrange the literature conference in collaboration with Nikhil Bharat Banga Sahittya Sammylan and Friends of Bangladesh, reports the UNB.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the conference as the chief guest while former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee will attend the closing ceremony on Monday as the chief guest.

Some 300 litterateurs from across the world will attend the conference while books translated in different languages and little magazines will be exhibited for sale on the academy premises.

The conference will feature six seminars, two stage performances, musical event, film show, and storytelling and recitation events.

A 201-member organising committee was formed to arrange the event while Finance Minister AMA Muhith and Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor are the key patron and chief advisor respectively.

As part of the conference, Mad Theatre will stage the 38th show of their maiden play ‘Naddiyo Natim’ on the inaugural day of the three-day Literature Conference on the Bangla Academy premises.

Asadul Islam directed the play ‘Naddiyo Natim’ based on the novel of Humayun Ahmed’s ‘Ke Kotha Koy’ while Naddiyo Natim is the main character of this novel. Matin Uddin is an Uzbek poet. He reversed the spelling of his name – Naddiyo Natim. He got acquainted with Komal during his tuition. Meghdut plays the role of Komal. Muna is Komal’s mother played by Subarna.
